Here’s what makes SpaceX’s starship its most powerful and ambitious rocket yet

SpaceX, the spacecraft manufacturer owned by Elon Musk, is preparing for the second launch of its starship rocket. The rocket is touted as the world’s most powerful spacecraft, capable of carrying astronauts to the Moon, Mars and beyond.

How is Starship different from previous SpaceX rockets?

The Starship spacecraft is SpaceX’s most ambitious rocket to date, with six engines – three Raptor engines and three Raptor Vacuum (RVac) engines. The ‘Super Heavy’, which is the first stage or booster of the Starship launch system, contains 33 Raptor engines. Starship is reportedly even bigger than NASA’s Space Launch System rocket, which has been in development for a decade. Combined, the rocket is a two-part system consisting of the Super Heavy booster and the Starship itself.

The starship is so powerful that it produces twice the thrust of the Saturn V that took astronauts to the moon during the Apollo mission. Combined, Starship produces a whopping 17 million pounds of thrust.

According to SpaceX, the Starship is 120 meters tall, 9 meters in diameter, and has a payload of 100-150 tons, which is fully reusable. In addition, the Raptor engines used on Starship use a reusable methane-oxygen stage combustion engine that uses the Starship system and has twice the thrust of the Falcon 9 Merlin engine.

Starship also towers over other large NASA rockets. The Starship is 394 feet tall, compared to the 363-foot Saturn V and 365-foot SLS.

As for carrying astronauts, the Starship can accommodate more than 100 people on long interplanetary flights, and SpaceX says the rocket will also help with point-to-point transportation and, most importantly, establishing a base on the Moon. and other planets like Mars.

Additionally, in NASA’s Artemis mission, both SLS and Starship work together to facilitate the Artemis mission.
